Mood Board Pre-Production

 My first mood board is too do with character design that are in the game or linked to the game, i'm using this to look for common destinations in the characters and see how they all fit inside the same realm and find some inspiration in the characters that I can use to create my character. For this mood board i'm looking at the colours and the body shapes. I quite like the colours in the bottom right and I like the shapes of the characters on the middle.
 The environment is important to me when creating my character and designing the back story of my character, using these images ill look for some themes and patterns I can use to create a scenery for my character and for my game in general. I like the stone creations and I feel that will be rather useful in making my game feel the way I want it to and give it that fantasy look.
Weapon designing is key to my character designing the looks of the weapon and designing how the weapon works, my primary research leaned more towards using a bow character but I will also look in alot of other weapons.

Primary Research


This first main question was to see what sort of genres of games people tend to lean towards, a lot of fantasy games appeared in my results and alot of modern fiction games such as GTA. This allows me to look at other games and see what sort of character designs they went for and how I can get inspired by it.

I asked what their favorite character were and why to see what sort of characters people tend to lean towards and what sort of personalities and properties people like of that character to help me create a character that has a personality that people can connect to and really get to know


This question was to see what sort of weapons people lean towards to help me have an understanding of what people would like to use on my character, a lot of people leaned towards using a bow so I will be incorporating that into my character. This will also please my target audience.
I asked people if they preferred fast past action or slow development, i know a a lot of league character take awhile to build their power while a lot only need to reach lvl 3 to get stuck into the action, most like a slow development so ill think of some way you can develop your character in game and build a stronger bond.


This research will be aimed at multiple people and not a specific demographic audience besides gamers

League of Draven

Draven is one of the many characters that I personally enjoy playing and the development of the actual character was a long process with many pieces of art showing the development for instance the art showing the development and concept of Dravens axes. This image shows a good way of developing the main armament for my character or characters and I will be laying it out similarly to this image.

I will also be calculating the math for all the damages and all the ability descriptions in the same manner as league of legends. Ill try to make the abilities balanced as possible but I wont know unless my characters in the actual game. The abilities are set out as such, Passive, Q, W, E and R. Usually characters have an main damage a slow/stun and a defense ability and their final R usually does a ton of damage and is named of their ultimate.

Backstory

In league of legends their are a multitude of character idea, concepts and lore to add a sort of story to the multiplayer game that it is. Every character has reason for existing and have their own unique personalities and my aim is to recreate that same feeling with my characters. In the world of league there is one super continent called Runeterra and a few islands around and each area of the super continent has their own faction which the characters originate from so for my character design ill look into creating my own faction which has a story and back story which the characters can originate from or ill use the already existing factions to implement in the back story, ill also look into why the character is murderous or if the are loyal and what their personal stories are.

Basic Moba roles

In league of legend their are many basic elements that create a team. each player has a specific role and their own goals that in the end game creates and makes a team work. I will be looking into changing how them roles work and creating away that the team can still be strong and functional.

Roles:
- Top - The main role for a top laner is to build tank items such as health and armor while also becoming a big damage dealer.
- Mid - Mid laners ten to be heavy magic base characters what use mana and deal tons of damage with being rather weak a prone to die often.
- Bot - Bottom Laners role is similar to mid lane but instead their role is to create pressure by creating a lot of damage over time using their attack speed to their advantage.
- Sup - Supports stand along side Bot players to ensure their safety and set up kills for their bot laner to take as kills can grab massive advantages to the team.
- Jgl - A junglers role is to pressure lanes by killing jungle camps to level up and using the buffs from the camps to harass and engage objectives such as towers, dragon and the baron.

My aim is to find flaws in the meta and find ways my characters will change they way each lane and role is played, specifically having a tanky Bot laner with a rather weak support or a jungler that can interact with the camps more than you already do. These are the things om going to think about.

Proposal

My original ideas was to create and very detailed character for the game League of Legends, but I was informed that it would be best to create a character for my own version or the game. My aim for my project is to create one or more characters and their skill sets. The things I will look into will be the lore behind the character, why I designed the character in the way of the purpose of his/hers abilities and I will also look into why he find out his role in the game. The mediums I will be using to start off with is word document to help write the background information of my character or characters, ill use paper and pencil to create a rough drafter and outline of the actual image and finally ill use Photoshop to bring depths the character or characters. The things I will have to manage is work time, how long im spending on the lore how long im spending on the abilities and how long im spending on Photoshop editing.
